The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications is responsible for providing safe and secure transport and communication links and services. It also allows the use of new digital services. The aim is to create a favourable operating environment for services and new business models.

One of the main responsibilities of the Ministry is to legislate. Government proposals prepared by the Ministry are discussed in the plenary sessions of the Government. The Ministry is also responsible for the preparation of decrees in the transport and communications sectors. It may also issue its own decrees.

The Ministry of Transport and Communication focuses mainly on the implementation of EU legislation when drafting legislation.
