Careers in iCT for Guidance Teachers

The eSkills Malta Foundation, in collaboration and partnership with the National School Support Services within the Ministry of Education and Employment, the University of Malta, MCAST and Shireburn Software held a “Careers in ICT for Guidance Teachers” online webinar on 19th April 2021.

Career Guidance teachers are pivotal in the development of the child. Such teachers need to be up to date with the latest popular trends to guide and steer children’s talents and aspirations.

The eSkills Malta Foundation Executive Mr Claude Calleja welcomed the esteemed speakers as well as the guidance teachers and gave a general overview of why Careers in ICT are so appealing to the current generation of students, how to pursue courses in ICT and what these would lead to. Prof. Ernest Cachia continued this path and explained what the University of Malta has to offer in this respect and emphasised how ICT is pervasive in every aspect of our lives which make such ICT careers ever more fulfilling and vibrant. Mr Conrad Vassallo from MCAST showed how certain ICT jobs such as technical ones do not necessarily require ICT degrees and can be satisfied with diplomas and advanced diplomas catered for by MCAST. Ms Sammut from Shireburn Software together with the help of some select colleagues described the workflow of an actual Maltese ICT firm and the various roles needed in teams within such a firm.

Finally, some time was made available for teachers to pose their questions and the experts in their field duly answered them.
The eSkills Malta Foundations deems this online webinar another great success primarily due to the valid speakers explaining the various educational paths available here in Malta for today’s students. The career guidance teachers were also very active with their participation and questioning.
