Unleashing Exciting Educational Opportunities!
Article by Loranne Avsar Zammit
The eSkills Malta Foundation, in collaboration with various training providers, has launched its annual Digital Bootcamps to enhance digital skills and upskill or reskill different target groups. The primary target groups include youths, adults, the elderly who are part of SMEs, teachers, educators, women, the ICT sector, and the Maltese society.
As for the education sector, teachers are upskilled to effectively utilise digital tools, particularly Artificial Intelligence, to enhance their teaching capabilities.
The workforce is also provided with training on basic online office tools, enabling them to use word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and online collaboration effectively. Furthermore, individuals in the ICT sector are familiarised with transversal skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, critical thinking, communication, and ethical principles to enhance their effectiveness in their roles.
For SMEs, the focus is on creating ICT specialists who can become trainee coders, developers, game designers, UX designers, or cybersecurity practitioners. Additionally, SME employees are educated on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Big Data, Blockchain, 3D printing, and Edge computing to improve their efficiency and employability. Business leaders also receive coaching on leveraging emerging technologies for digital transformation, while SMEs in general are guided on cybersecurity practices.
To promote gender equality, several initiatives are designed for women. These include increasing and retaining women in the ICT sector, instilling interest in ICT and STEM subjects among girls, introducing coding to girls using user-friendly languages like Scratch and Python, upskilling female education teachers, and empowering females with digital skills and knowledge.
For the Maltese society, training programs focus on equipping citizens with essential digital skills. This includes teaching youths, adults, and the elderly to use basic digital devices like computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. Citizens are also upskilled to utilise online government services, perform financial activities securely using the Internet, and get familiarised with emerging technologies. Training is also provided on using basic office tools and online communication platforms, while safety on the internet is emphasised to ensure secure online practices.
These initiatives collectively aim to enhance digital literacy, empower individuals and businesses with valuable digital skills, and promote equal opportunities and inclusion in the digital realm.
These training events will run from July 2023 till November 2023.

Robotics Sessions during Skolasajf 2023
The eSkills Malta Foundation is also taking advantage of the summer period to enhance digital skills in students through Robotics Sessions, offering numerous benefits to children. These sessions provide an interactive and enjoyable way for children to learn about programming and STEM concepts. Through robotics, students develop problem-solving skills, foster imagination and curiosity, and gain preparation for a technology-driven world.
This initiative is part of Skolasajf; a service offered in State Primary Schools and Resource Centres in Malta and Gozo, catering to children from different types of schools.
This year, the eSkills Malta Foundation has partnered with Data Science Malta and the Foundation for Educational Services (FES) to provide robotics sessions to 30 Skolasajf Centres.
Recognising the potential of robotics to introduce children to programming and engineering in a fun and interactive manner, the Foundation highlights the importance of robotics as a valuable skill for future career development. By enhancing problem-solving abilities, encouraging curiosity and creativity, and preparing children for a technology-driven future, robotics sessions play a significant role in shaping their learning experiences.
The Skolasajf program will run from July 17th to August 11th and August 21st to September 1st.
